How Long Does It Take for Self-Concept Affirmations to Work?

You began your self-concept affirmations. You have a routine and are ready to see the changes in your outer world after reciting your affirmations for days, maybe even weeks. And, like many who are new to the law of assumption and affirming, you ask yourself, how long does it take for affirmations to work?

More questions follow, like: when will I feel a boost in self-esteem? When will I see my self-concept affirmations reflected back to me? When will I become this new version of myself? What gives?!

It’s normal to ask these questions! You are excited and you want to live your dream life. Also, because you are now “awake” you want to see results. In other words, now that you are conscious of your thoughts you want to manifest quickly.

That’s because you have old dominant thoughts that still linger. Although you are aware of your thoughts now, and you’re now choosing thoughts that align with your desires, your thoughts have always been there, creating your reality. The thing is that when we’re unaware we let our thoughts run wild.

If you think back at your past dominant thoughts regarding relationshjps, money, and/or self-concept, you will find a direct correlation between your consistent, negative thought patterns and your life circumstances.

Look at your previous or, if you just started affirming, current financial situation. Does the state of your finances reflect your past dominant thoughts about money? Did you ever think “I have to work hard to make money,” and therefore, you work hard for every dollar?

Let’s take the flip side of that. Your dominant thoughts about money were and still are “money always falls on my lap”, or “I’m lucky.” It’s not a coincidence that you win money at every turn, are given money, receive random checks, or find money.

The same goes for relationships. If your past dominant thoughts regarding romantic relationships emphasized relationships failing or men cheating, I am almost certain your relationships have failed and that men have been unfaithful to you. On the contrary, if you’ve always assumed that you’re spoiled and loved, well, you’ve probably been spoiled rotten and loved unconditionally.

The time that it takes for you to see “proof” of your affirmations depends on how long you’ve continued to replay thoughts that aren’t in alignment with what you wish to manifest.

This means this isn’t an easy answer, especially since we all have varying experiences. It also helps to know what happens to our brain when we affirm.

According to a study published in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, self-concept affirmations “activate brain systems associated with self-related processing and reward.” That means that the more you say something desirable about yourself and your circumstances like, “I am always loved,” that part of your brain lights up.

The more you say your self-concept affirmations, the more it fires up that part of the brain. This then creates a new neural pathway.

You will soon start believing in what you are affirming, or at least start to believe it is possible.

It seems that the more we affirm and light up that part of our brain, the more proof we see of said affirmations. Since the “reward” part of our brain is constantly being activated when you affirm, it has to reward you by showing up in your reality. Your life has to show you proof that you are who you are claiming to be over and over again.

This doesn’t mean you have to recite your affirmations nonstop, although Law of Assumption coach, Sammy Ingram, encourages this method if you wish to attain your desires quickly. It’s all a personal preference. Impatient people may love affirming all day so they light up that reward center every minute of the day. Others may not have the time to affirm that much. You might also just feel exhausted when repeating the same thoughts throughout the day.

That’s why you have to decide what works best for you: affirming all day, affirming on a schedule, or affirming when you just think of your desire.

Self-concept affirmations are amazing to boost self-confidence and to eliminate negative thought patterns regarding money, relationships, beauty, and identity. That’s because self-concept affirmations create a new you.

Self-concept is who you identity as. Here are great “I am” statements to start depending on who you want to become:

  • I am loved and desired.
  • I am an amazing wife/husband/partner.
  • I am the best mother.
  • I am a rich/wealthy/adundant successful entrepreneur.
  • I am rich/wealthy/abundant.
  • I am irresistible, irreplaceable, and unforgettable.

Here are statements that relay how you want to be treated:

  • Every man/woman/person treats me with respect.
  • Everyone respects my boundaries.
  • Every man/woman/person falls in love with me.
  • Everyone spoils me.
  • Every man/woman/person wants to be my friend.
  • Every man/woman/person commits to me easily and for long term.
  • Everyone makes time for me.
  • Everyone puts me first.

You can also recite affirmations that counter negative thought patterns, like:

  • I am never left.
  • I am never put on hold.
  • I never have to worry about money.

I affirm some of these when I need a reminder that this is my reality. I don’t have to allow hurtful circumstances in my life ever again!

There is no wrong way to affirm! Which is why there is no easy way to answer, how long does it take for affirmations to work? Don’t let anyone tell you differently. And if they do, it is a limiting belief that there is only one way to manifest your dreams or even one timeline.

Decide what works best for you. You can start by reflecting back on how you naturally manifested in the past – even the not to lovely things you brought into your reality. I did this myself and learned that:

  • I manifest best when saying my affirmations with conviction.
  • Having faith in my desires brings them into my reality.
  • When I detach (not let go) and distract myself, my desires manifest faster.

Also, remember that thoughts do harden into fact over time. So, yes, you can affirm like crazy if you want your reward. Just decide on a plan of action and stick with it. You’ll be the new you in no time!
